Kampos has been inhabited since the 14th century during the island’s Genoese domination. The Genoese, organized succesfully the economy and the trade on a modern basis for the time. They began, in Kampos, the systematic cultivation of citrus fruits and their export trade. At the same time they began to build their summer luxury residences in the area.<\/p>\n

The characteristic of these houses is their strict external contour with the high walls and the arched carved out-doors. They are usually two-storey or three-storey with free views from all sides. Large internal stairs, spacious courtyards embroidered with pebbles, shady trees, impressive flower gardens, wells for watering, marble cisterns with pergolas or vines dominate the area.<\/p>\n
